I had fond memories of the Panera Bread chain. It was one of the rare eateries along my USA road trip where I thought “that was good and I don’t regret eating more”. It was also one of the few places open near Dundas Square early morning Good Friday. I was off to Niagara Falls on a tour and killed some morning time tucking into an Asiago bacon, egg and cheese bagel ($4.39). Curiously, the Asiago cheese bagel option has less calories than the sourdough. Not that I’m counting.
The sandwich arrives only a few moments later. It’s grilled and flattened for your morning appetite. As I remembered, the bread at Panera Bread is fab. It’s a mighty fine bagel and I would have been content on the bread alone. The bacon isn’t especially plentiful here, but it is crisped up to a satisfying level, and well accompanied by the (unidentified but probably cheddar) cheese. Egg was a little bit flat, didn’t quite taste proper egg enough. So enough happiness with Panera Bread to carry forward to the next North American tour.
