Aladin, Brick Lane, London

Arabian nights, like Arabian days, more often than not, are hotter than hot, in a lot of good ways. It’s hard to not feel a little nostalgia when you’re dining in a place called Aladin with some quaint hand painted Disney (and other) characters adorning the wall. This was our mid-point for the East End food tour and we tucked into some curries. Our guide Emily made a point to admire the fanfare of the restaurants here on Brick Lane, with each claiming some award, rating or other fame.

According to the website, Aladin is praised by HRH Prince Charles, listed on BBC’s best curry houses AND also happens to be the best Indian curry restaurant in London. Who knew? Most of the reviews here seem fake (one review only from each reviewer, yeah cough) but the food was decently good. Better than the puffery would suggest. Tikka Masala, a vege and a lamb curry we had. Good levels of spice and decent chunks of meat so I wouldn’t be opposed to returning for a future magic curry ride.

7.5/10
