A search for “Greggs” on London Zomato yields 187 locations. And that says a bit itself for the state of food culture here. I popped in a local Greggs in Turnpike Lane to sample one of their popular 99p sausage rolls. The pastry was good, but the filling was foreign to me – I guess I have to get used to pork in pastry rather than beef. But it didn’t really taste like pork either. I’m told that fresh out of the oven these beasts are delicious but mine was a static lukewarm and would have benefitted from a quick zap in the microwave. Still, okay for under a pound.
