A small little sign on a empty stall at the South Melbourne market said “borek” and ever since then I’ve been graciously excited for its opening. And it has now opened. And it has a name, well that’s Borek shop, apparently. The borek here is amazing. The best of I had here in Melbourne in fact. Aromas were released, crowds were chanted over and won over with samples and the legacy in South Melbourne begins.
My borek was the spiced lamb and for only three dollars you get a handful-sized log of toasty, crispy bread filled with mince meat, onion and spices. I was not expecting the borek to be hot as it came off the counter but to my surprise it was piping with a fresh from the oven quality. So good. Not lukewarm like the Prahran market ones and not werid shaped like the QVM ones. Spinach and cheese is also available. They also do cheap falafel wraps. Such a great addition to the market. I want more.
