A respectable addition to the South Melbourne Market eatery scene is Proper & Son, which is looking great in its revamp as well having as a menu with a lot of effort. I can appreciate that it changes each week and the cabinet always looks pretty exciting, even if you’re only lunch window shopping. It’s also probably the nicest space to sit in for a coffee within the ground of the market.
I takeaway-ed a pork belly, fennel and orange salad and probably have the same qualms as other people who have reviewed; you just don’t get enough for a meal. You can get a second salad option by the way, but I opted just to focus on this one and the staff were kind enough to make it afresh. The salad was really tasty with a nice balance of textures, and the sweetness of the fruit complementing the saltiness of the pork. I just needed another chunk more bites to be full.
