A new dessert chain that’s fresh off the boat from Japan to Melbourne’s shores is Tsujiri, which takes it’s residence over the former Guylian cafe on Swanston Street. The matcha soft serve is decently good but is pretty overpriced when most of the options are tipping the $10 mark for what is machine bled soft serve confectionery with some minor additions.
I went for the Tsujiri sundae which is like an ogre, in that it is green and has many layers. On the bottom is roasted brown rice, red bean paste in the middle, soft serve of your flavour selection and a cherry blossom wafer, a single chestnut and a single shiratama ball (it’s like mochi) on top. I opted for the matcha/ vanilla blend soft serve and although it was a bit too melty, it was a pretty interesting and varied sweet treat with a great matcha taste. My friend ordered the matcha shake and said the flavour on that was top notch too, but pricer than usual Starbucks effort she gets. Overall we enjoyed but it’s a bit too high costed for what you get.
