Banh mi and bakeries are the greatest combo. Perfect for that hit of protein, sugar and fat in so many options of forms.
This little store is in the Smith St row of many banh mi eateries and definitely up there. Decent bread, cheap, homely tasting meaty sandwiches featuring any number of fillings. Largely around the $5 mark to $6.50 if you give in to the crispy pork.
Of qualities, this banh mi was a bit more difficult to eat in perfect bread to salad to meat ratios, with the pork belly rectngles being too big and the roast pork option being a bit too chewy for my liking. The bread was decent enough and only goes for 40c if you feel like DIYing it on your next go.
As well as the sandwiches they do decent pies that are square in shape. Something about that pleases my sense of pie-to-bag maximisation value. There’s the usual vietnamese sweets options so lamingtons, donuts and custard-based pastries if you need some sugar for a balanced diet.
Pro tip: don’t be a bogan and order the banh mi by name and not number or worse, pointing vigorously to the menu board.
