In native Asia there are two types of people: those who like durian and those are regular, functioning human beings. I’m of the latter although my friends were not and were subsequently keen to check out Satu Produck Durian, a self-labelled durian themed dessert cafe in Melbourne’s Chinatown. Luckily for me, there’s a full mango menu to ensure I didn’t have to suffer gastronomic isolation at this venue.
Desserts are okay looking, but highly underwhelming and lacking authentic durian (and mango for that matter) flavours, heck, I could have eaten the durian stuff. We had a mix of items including mille crepe (too small to be doing anything, heh), mango pancakes and a cold pudding of durian balls in durian ice. For all those mentions of durian, you’d think they’d be more of a taste than this. Not offensive by any means, but if you were expecting durian you’re not going to get it here. You’re better off sticking to something simpler like Dessert Story or booking flights to Malaysia.
